Aaron Paul will allegedly be returning to his role as Jesse Pinkman in the hotly-anticipated sequel film to the hit AMC series Breaking Bad.

According to reports from The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday, the actor, 39, will feature as the title character in the feature-length drama.

They also claimed that Netflix have the rights to release the film first on the video-on-demand platform, before it then airs on its original US-based channel AMC.

Not much is known about the top-secret project, but the publication reported that series creator Vince Gilligan is on board to write and direct the film, and it has the working title of Greenbrier.

Jesse was last seen driving off into the night after being kidnapped and forced under duress to make Meth for Todd (Jesse Plemons), his uncle Jack (Michael Bowen), and his gang of goons.

He managed to escape after his former partner Walter White (Bryan Cranston) came to kill Todd and the Aryan brotherhood with a machine gun he concealed in the back of his car.

Jesse, who then had an estranged relationship with Walt, was brought out of his underground prison-turned-lab to see him, where he then tackled the man to the ground in anger.

During the punch-up, Jesse triggered the switch on the machine gun which fired into the room, mortally injuring Walt, and killing everyone inside except for Jesse.

After letting Jesse drive off, Walt went into the lab to look at all of the equipment as police came to raid the premises, but collapsed and died just before they arrived.

Breaking Bad followed dejected high-school chemistry teacher Walter, who decides to start making Crystal Meth with his former student Jesse, after he is diagnosed with lung cancer.

Originally intending to make the money as a way to pay for his treatment and make enough money to support his family, Walt soon loses himself in the business and becomes a drug lord known using the pseudonym Heisenberg.

According to the Albuquerque Journal, production was scheduled to start at the end of 2018 in New Mexico

‘[Greenbriar will] follow the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom’ — suggesting it might focus on Jesse Pinkman (Paul) following the events in the Breaking Bad series finale, which aired in 2013,’ the Journal reported last year.

Adding: ‘How Cranston’s meth king character Walter White would factor into such a story is unclear (as White died in the finale).’

Breaking Bad aired on AMC for five seasons from 2008-2013. The series boasts 16 Prime Time Emmy wins and 58 nominations as well as two Peabody Awards.

For his role, Bryan took home the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series four times and co-star Aaron earned three Emmy’s for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
